Investigation and reporting on the importance of archiving and documentation in Syria

Funded: Focus Aleppo

Focus Aleppo is an electronic magazine covering news of the province of Aleppo and the whole of northern Syria, providing local and international audiences with valid and trustworthy news reporting and investigative journalism on a variety of topics.

Through the NAWA-IF grant, Focus Aleppo worked on an in-depth investigative report on “the importance of archiving and documentation in Syria”. Focus Aleppo explored the loss of a large part of the Syrian archive and its impact on building a history of events, and how this makes it difficult for researchers and interested parties, as well as holding people responsible for violations. Focus Aleppo highlight the impact of the work of the Syrian Archive, and further reports to come will cover most of the Syrian regions, continuing to share results through their website or videos on social media. Focus Aleppo has already worked on publishing the following items and will continue to produce content out of their research in multimedia.
