COVID-19 in Yemen investigation

Funded: Institute for Media Freedom

The Yemeni Institute for Media Freedom is a platform affiliated with the Yemen-based Free Media Foundation. The IMF aims to highlight what is happening in Yemen, by tracking the contexts of journalistic stories, publishing investigative reports and investigations, covering events, and promoting transparency and legal accountability.

With NAWA-IF support between June and October 2020, IMF worked on an extensive investigative report under the title COVID-19 in Yemen, the overcrowded cemeteries expose the large number of deaths in three parts in Arabic.

IMF also worked on producing two videos:

  1.  A short Youtube infographic video stating the peaks of COVID-19 and the weakness of the medical care system in return.
  2. An investigative Youtube video that includes the statements of the Secretary for Health Affairs in Taiz, the head of the isolation center, and the former head of the Rapid Response Committee, about the funds spent to face the COVID-19 pandemic crisis in Yemen.

IMF worked on publishing their content not only on Youtube and through their website but managed to post updates about their investigative project through Facebook where they have an active audience.
