Archives research, mapping Arabic grassroots activism
Funded: Working Class History – Arabic
Working Class History is a media outlet, activism and archives project “dedicated to all those who have struggled in the past for a better world, and who continue to do so now. To help record and popularize our grassroots, people’s history, as opposed to the top-down accounts of most history books.” WCH Arabic is the Arabic offshoot, helping to promote radical and people’s history to the world’s 230 million Arabic speakers. Since 2019, the team has created and translated around 500 entries and published them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Funding supported an archives research project documenting narratives of the 19th/20th century emergence of grassroots activism in Arab countries, mapping libertarian ideas and movements. This resulted in 30 database entries being published as articles and social media posts, on WCH-A accounts: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. An online interactive map was also created to collate these – see the link below.
